About the Author

Marcus Aurelius (121180 CE) was a Roman emperor and philosopher, often regarded as the last of the Five Good Emperors. Born into a prominent Roman family, he was educated in rhetoric, philosophy, and law, and was profoundly influenced by Stoicisman ancient Greek school of thought that teaches self-control, duty, and rational action. As emperor from 161 to 180 CE, Marcus faced ongoing wars, political challenges, and personal loss, yet he strove to rule justly while remaining committed to philosophical reflection.
