About the Author

William Congreve (16701729) was an English playwright and poet best known for his contributions to Restoration comedy. Born in Yorkshire, England, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin, Congreve quickly became a leading figure in Londons literary and theatrical scene in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
