Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a Gothic science fiction novel that tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who becomes obsessed with discovering the secret of life. In his ambition, he creates a living being from assembled body parts, but horrified by the creatures appearance, he abandons it. The creature, intelligent and sensitive, is rejected by society and becomes isolated, which gradually turns him toward anger and revenge against his creator. This leads to a tragic chain of events that destroys Victors loved ones and ultimately himself. The novel explores themes of ambition, responsibility, isolation, and the dangers of unchecked scientific experimentation, while also questioning what it means to be human and how society shapes identity.

About the Author

Mary Shelley was a pioneering English writer best known for creating Frankenstein, often considered one of the first science fiction novels. Born in 1797 to political philosopher William Godwin and feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft, she was exposed early to radical ideas and literature. She began writing Frankenstein at the age of 18, and the novel was published in 1818. Shelleys works often reflect themes of scientific curiosity, human emotion, and social responsibility. Despite facing personal tragedies throughout her life, she continued writing novels, travelogues, and biographies. Today, she is recognized as a foundational figure in Gothic and science fiction literature.
