BornEleanor Marie Robertson on October 10, 1950, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Roberts grew up immersed in books and storytelling. A catastrophic blizzard in 1979 left her snowed in with two young sons and prompted her first attempt at writingwhich led to her debut novel Irish Thoroughbred in 1981 . Since then, she has written over 250 novels, selling more than 500 million copies, and has earned acclaim under multiple pseudonyms including J.D.Robb.

While her early career was rooted in traditional romance, Roberts has since diversified into suspense, fantasy, and her signature In Death police procedural series under the J.D. Robb name . She typically puts in six to eight hours of writing a day, producing about four books annually . A founding member of the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame, shes also known for her philanthropic efforts through the Nora Roberts Foundation, supporting literacy and the arts
